Review of forging quality problems is a very complex and extensive work, can be reviewed by the cause of defects, can also be reviewed by the responsibility of defects, but also by the defective parts to describe, and therefore it is necessary to classify them.

According to the process that produces defects or forging production process, there are quality defects arising from the preparation process, quality defects arising from the forging process and quality defects arising from the heat treatment process, etc.

       1. Defects caused by raw materials. ① forging defects brought about by raw materials: cracks, hairline cracks, shrinkage, loosening, impurities, segregation, scars, bubbles, slag, sand eyes, folding, scratching, non-metallic inclusions, white spots and other defects; ② defects caused by raw materials in the forging of longitudinal or transverse cracks, laminations and other defects; ③ problems with the chemical composition of raw materials.

       2. defects caused by undercutting are: rough unevenness of the end face, end tilt and insufficient length, end cracks, end burrs and laminations, etc.

       3. Defects caused by heating are: cracking, oxidation and decarburization, overheating, overburning and uneven heating, etc.

       4. Defects caused by forging are: cracks, folding, end depressions, undersize and shape discrepancies and surface defects, etc.

       5. Defects arising from post-forging cooling and heat treatment include: cracks and white spots, deformation, hardness discrepancies or coarse grains, etc.
